The Woodwalk is complete, over and finished. The walk was a success, people were impacted and changed, awareness of what women go through just to cook was delivered on a national scale. And now, the dust has settled and I sit at my desk wondering what I should be doing with myself. 10 days of walking with 50-70 pounds of wood on my back all day is a life-changing experience to say the least.

Woodwalk – Day 9: I can taste it

On the eve of the finale. Exhausted, battle-worn from 110 miles of pavement and so close to the finish line I can taste it.

Woodwalk – Day 8: Almost there

Posted October 12, 2011 in Blog, Woodwalk by paradigm

Today we cruised through 15 miles of pavement leaving a beautiful downtown Long Beach oceanic scene for refineries, ports, railroad tracks and barbed wire. It was a change of scenery to say the least, but I actually welcomed it.

Woodwalk – Day 7: Los Angeles, we will conquer you.

Posted October 11, 2011 in Blog, Woodwalk by paradigm

Los Angeles, you are my enemy right now. Not in essence, but in distance. I’ve been walking for 7 days pounding my feet, body and the bundle of wood on my back against the pavement and feel like you’ve been teasing me in the unreachable distance. But I’m determined, we are determined to conquer you through this woodwalk in honor of those women in Kenya and all around the world. It’s been a battle and there have been days that you’ve defeated me and us, but come this Thursday you’re history.

The challenging thing about writing this blog is that I struggle to know what to tell you that’s new or different other than “we walked a really long way, it really hurt, we had an amazing group and now we’re really tired.” I will add that our Invisible Children interns were champs this weekend! They [...]

Woodwalk – Day 5: Refreshing

Today was a really fun day….well, relatively. Not fun in the sense that 65 lbs of wood was on my back and my feet felt like they had been run over by a steam roller, but fun in the sense that the walk felt new, refreshed and rejuvenated. After an extremely long day yesterday (14.4 miles), we were able to relax at a beautiful friends home in San Clemente overlooking the ocean, having some wood fired pizza and just soaking up newfound friendships and relationships.

Sorry for the tardiness on this blog. Its tough to keep up when you’re walking 8 hours a day and beat from 60lbs of wood on your back! But yesterday, Day 4, we got a much needed pick me up as a couple friends from PLNU came to join us today. They showed up with [...]

Woodwalk – Day 3: Adversity

Today was really difficult if I’m being totally honest. Dealing with the post effects of the rain yesterday, the thin woodwalking team (just me and my dad), car troubles (one breaking down and the other getting backed into) and being heckled by some confused passers by were just some of the challenges. I realized today [...]

Day 2 of the woodwalk. We missed having Elle, Jedidiah, Nika Water, Fifty and Fifty and Empower a Child with us today, but regardless of having those awesome people with us today we pressed on and picked up yet another brave soul, Darcy Bingham. Today on our woodwalk, “sunny ” San Diego wasn’t so sunny. [...]
